STATE CUP A SUCCESS

Kemps Creek fielded a record six teams in this year’s State Cup. All sides performed admirably with the Under 12s finishing semi-finalists, Under 17s quarter-finalists, and the remaining teams losing in tight contests on penalties or in extra time.

The other success story was Bill Anderson Reserve being granted hosting rights for Round 2, Round 3 and Quarter-final fixtures, totally 14 games across three Sundays. Club President Ross Maiorana was upbeat when asked about his thoughts on this year’s State Cup.

“State Cup is giving opportunities for teams to compete with the best in the state. To have six teams all playing competitive football was outstanding, and to host three weekends at Bill Anderson Reserve was great for our Club and its exposure. We might be just a little Club in the sticks to some, but we can proudly say we hold our own in the playing ranks and as a football venue”, Mairorana said.

“It’s encouraging to see the hard work put in and the time invested by players, officials and parents at the Club providing positive results and outcomes like these”, he added.

TIGERS ROAR IN CANBERRA

The Under 12s team became the first Kemps Creek United side to win at the Kanga Cup recently when they took out the Under 12 Shield competition in the Nation’s Capital.

It was an enduring week for the squad who played a total of 10 matches in nine days, including six at the Kanga Cup, culminating with victory in the Grand Final against local team, Weston Molonglo. After cruising to 10-1 and 6-0 wins in their opening two pool games against Gundghlin United and the International Football School respectively, their third outing saw the Tigers run halted with a 3-2 loss to Weston Molonglo.

They re-grouped to record a comprehensive 10-0 quarter-final win over Belnorth in the afternoon of their loss to book a semi-final spot against local Southern Districts side Amity FC. After a dominant 3-0 victory, Kemps Creek were afforded an opportunity to avenge their earlier loss to the locals, defeating them 2-0 in the decider to take the trophy.

It was a pleasing result not only for the players, but Coach Geoff Stanmore who has worked tirelessly with the squad for the past two seasons. “Winning isn’t everything, I’m for the development of players and their enjoyment too, but to win was a reward for the effort these boys have put in for all competitions”, Stanmore said.

“We definitely look forward to returning to Canberra next year, it was a fabulous week away”, added the Coach.

The Vince Musico lead Under 16s team also competed in the Kanga Cup this year. After a sparkling start to the tournament with two strong wins against Canberra Olympic (6-3) and Wagga City (4-0), they stumbled in their third game in two days, going down to the International Football School 2-0.

In a must win final Pool Game, the Creek thumped Broadmeadow 7-0 to advance to the knock-out phase. The current Southern Districts table topping side fell a game short bowing out to eventual champions Lindfield, 3-1 in the semi-final.image001.jpg

On the early morning of Saturday 27 May 2017, Ms Tanya Davies MP, State Member for Mulgoa was a welcomed guest at a chilly Bill Anderson Reserve, presenting the Kemps Creek United Soccer Club with a cheque for $12,000. The funds were courtesy of two grants, $7,000 from Community Building Partnerships, and $5,000 from the Office of Sport, for ongoing improvements and upgrades at the park including fencing, drainage and the purchase of equipment.

Ms Davies is no stranger to Tiger territory and has been a great supporter of the Kemps Creek Club for some years now assisting with funding contributions totalling $52,000. Previous grants have been towards the field two floodlighting upgrades (still in progress), and the awning and seating project (also in progress as evidenced with seating recently installed). Before the presentation of the cheque, Ms Davies warmed up with a coffee and chat with many that were present at the event.

Club President Ross Maiorana expressed the Club’s appreciation to Ms Davies and the State Government. “Our Club has been very fortunate to have someone like Tanya promoting us and helping to improve the facilities with worthy funding contributions. The last few years have seen some good works carried out, and we hope to continue delivering the best facilities possible for our Club members and the football community.”

Bill Anderson Reserve is considered one of the best football facilities in the Association, exemplified with Football NSW allocating five Round 2, and five Round 3 State Cup fixtures over recent weekends. The Club is proud of its set-up and will continue its hard work with future improvements at the venue.

The Kemps Creek United Soccer Club is poised to undertake some significant upgrades to its already impressive facilities at Bill Anderson Reserve following an announcement of funding assistance by State Member for Mulgoa, Tanya Davies MP.

The Club was successful in obtaining two major grants through the State Government’s funding programs. Early this year, $20,000 was awarded towards the upgrading of floodlighting on Field 2 courtesy of the Government’s Community Building Partnerships Program, while last month, the Club received another $20,000, this time from the Office of Sport, to upgrade the clubhouse with an extension to the awning.

Club President, Ross Maiorana summed up his appreciation for the funding.

‘On behalf of the Club, I am very grateful for the funding we have received and would like to sincerely thank our local MP, Tanya Davies for her download (2)support. These are two important projects for the Club, and as we continue to grow in numbers, it is vital that we can accommodate our members and visitors with the best facilities possible’.
